Jasmine Crockett Says House Republicans Give Her the ‘Thumbs Up’ for Attacking Marjorie Taylor Greene
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) said Republicans have praised her missives directed at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), even though Greene is on their side of the aisle.
Crockett and Greene were part of a now-infamous exchange during a House Oversight Committee hearing last week that began when Greene mocked Crockett’s “fake eyelashes.”
After some discussion over whether Greene’s words should be expunged, Crockett made a “point of order” that was really just an equally personal rebuttal to Greene. Crockett asked, “[I]f someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleached blonde, bad-built, butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
Crockett appeared on Friday’s edition of The ReidOut for a debrief about the incident.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene is a bully,” host Joy Reid said. “She is not a legislator. She has not created anything and she has not created anything positive in Congress.”
Reid called Greene’s attack on Crockett “clearly racialized” and asked, “What is it like having to be in a legislative body, which is supposed to be a prestigious institution, with someone like her?”
“It’s completely unproductive,” the lawmaker responded. “But listen, she is showing the world who she is and the fact that the Republicans continue to give her cover, it tells us who they are as well. Now, they want to disassociate themselves from her, but in reality, when you don’t check her, you basically are complicit in the things that she does.”
However, Crockett then shared an unexpected bit of information.
“I will tell you that I’ve had thumbs up, winks, and comments from the other side,” she said. “Like, nobody’s coming to her defense and they’re all patting me on my back.”
