Jimmy Fallon Cracks Up While Listening to Bernie Sanders’ Folk Album

Bernie Sanders had a bit of a surprise cameo on The Tonight Show last night, while Jimmy Fallon was introducing his audience to his “do-not-playlist.”

You can guess from the title what the segment was about, but while it mostly revolved around obscure R&B songs (not to mention a really strange cover of Beyonce‘s All the Single Ladies), things took a funny turn when Fallon reminded everyone that Martin O’Malley and Mike Huckabee are not the only musical people running for president.

As amazing as it sounds, when Sanders was a mayor in Vermont back in 1987, he and several contributing artists recorded an album of folk songs and classic covers in a way that can only be described as so bad that it’s good. Fallon brought it back to play “This Land is Your Land”… and he barely held it together as Sanders started singing in his native Brooklyn accent.

When Fallon pulled himself together, he assured the audience that Sanders had “the voice of an angel,” but he couldn’t help himself but to immediately do his own Sanders-esque take on the song with the house band.

There’s plenty to say on how spot on Fallon was, but its better if you just watch above, via NBC.
