Joe Scarborough Goes OFF on Trump’s ‘Slit Your Throat’ Rhetoric: ‘People Don’t Realize How Crazy and Dangerous This Has Become’
Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough slammed former President Donald Trump for his “dangerous” and “crazy” remarks on immigrants over the weekend and reflected that the rhetoric would stun US voters if it were coming from an election candidate in any other democracy.
The analysis came as the MSNBC crew focused on Trump’s rhetoric around immigrants as panelist John Heilemann, chief political columnist at Puck, called out the Republican presidential candidate for “race-based fear rhetoric” designed to “scare the crap out of white voters.”
Scarborough, in disbelief, began to list of various controversial statements made by Trump and asked aloud what democratic and NATO allies of the US must think when they here the comments.
Saying they’re going to come to your kitchen, to your house, and slit your throat. That’s where he’s gone. Can you imagine? First of all, it’s hard to project this on to any other country because of the unique place and the unique role that the United States plays in global affairs. But could you imagine us following a campaign in the UK, in France, in any major industrialized country, where somebody who is tied is running around talking about the eating of dogs and cats? Talking about people coming to your houses and slitting your throats. Talking about celebrating a day of violence? Talking about being a dictator for a day. I mean, we could go down the list.
The host continued, adding how other world leaders might react to seeing Trump tied in the polls despite this:
I think because everybody here is so close to it, I think, at times, people don’t realize how crazy and dangerous this has become.
And, yes, what our democratic allies, our NATO allies have to be thinking when they say: ‘Wait a second, he’s tied after he’s calling somebody, like, mentally impaired and stupid and talking about the eating of dogs and cats’ and talking about, ‘hey, we really need a day of violence in America?’ And, ‘hey, I’m going to be a dictator for a day in America?’ It’s crazy.
