John Oliver’s Moving Orlando Shooting Intro: ‘That Terrorist Dipshit is Vastly Outnumbered’

It’s always difficult for a comedy show to know how to handle a tragedy like the Orlando mass shooting, the worst in our nation’s history, but it’s also a sad fact that these shows have been getting more and more practice over the years. On Sunday night’s edition of HBO’s Last Week Tonight, host John Oliver opened his show with a brief introduction that urged viewers not to focus on the actions of “terrorist dipshit” Omar Mateen, but rather on those things that make America great: “Latin night at a gay club in the theme park capital of the world.”

He then asked viewers to instead consider the throngs of people who lined up to donate blood in Orlando this morning, adding “That terrorist dipshit is vastly outnumbered.” Watch the full intro above, from HBO’s Last Week Tonight.
