Jon Stewart and Buttigieg Mock JD Vance Campaign: ‘Boy Did That Dude Drop a Turd on Launch’

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg ripped into JD Vance’s first days as a vice presidential candidate, with Stewart calling it a “turd” of a launch unlike anything he’s ever witnessed in politics.

Buttigieg joined Stewart on Monday night as rumors continue that he is on a shortlist to be the Democratic Party’s vice presidential pick for presumptive nominee Kamala Harris.

While discussing the Harris campaign, Buttigieg argued that “focusing all” on Donald Trump would likely be a mistake, especially with his running mate having so much the Democrat said should be exposed to voters.

“Boy, did that dude launch a turd on launch,” Stewart said at the mention of Vance. “I’ve never seen anything like that. One day they were like, ‘heir to the MAGA fortune, Prince JD!’… and then he comes out and he’s like, ‘I hate cat ladies!'”

Vance has earned backlash over resurfaced comments in which he’s been critical of Americans without children. In a 2021 clip, he railed against “childless cat ladies.” In the same year, Vance specifically pointed to Harris, Buttigieg, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as “childless” Democrats who have no “physical” connection to the future of the country.

One problem quickly pointed out with Vance’s comments, which he recently defended, is that Harris is a stepmother, and Buttigieg would become a father with his partner a short time later.

“It was rough. He’s just systematically insulted so many people, and it’s not just the kind of things he said, but also the policy ideas behind him. He has this idea that you should get extra votes if you have kids,” Buttigieg said on Monday.

“Extra votes?!” a shocked Stewart asked.

“Yeah, he suggested you should have extra votes if you’re a parent,” Buttigieg said.

“Really?! You don’t even get that in your own house. I’m a parent! You don’t get anything!” Stewart said.

“He doesn’t just say that being a parent gives you an important role as a citizen, which I agree with because then it gives you a unique perspective on the future; it’s that not being a parent makes you less,” Buttigieg said.

Vance claims his comments on childless Americans are a criticism of the Democratic Party becoming “anti-kid.”

Buttigieg took specific issue with Vance, saying voters without children have less of a physical investment in the future of the country, noting that he served his country in Afghanistan long before he was a father.

“That framing is perfect because it does, it points to that idea that, who are you to tell what’s in someone else’s heart about what they feel about the future or what they feel about this country?” Stewart said. “And the sacrifices you made, as you said, without having had children were tremendous, so it’s shocking.”
