Jon Stewart Is Baffled By Conservative Outrage Over Obama Recess Appointment

While most of the attention this week has been on the Iowa caucuses and development of the extended drama that has become the Republican primary, the GOP has taken some time to point out their disapproval of President Obama’s recess appointment of Richard Cordray to run the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. “What kind of Monster… .com is he?” Jon Stewart asked, before noting that, not only are recess appointments common, the Senate wasn’t even in recess.

“What did the President do that was so wrong?” Stewart asked, before turning to the news that the Senate was in session, and so Congress’s outrage was confined to the House of Representatives. Stewart noted that, as someone who watches C-SPAN for a living, it was strange to him that he missed the sessions. “It’s not like a shooting star, you don’t just miss it!” Stewart joked. They he played an entire session, while he tried to open an aspirin bottle. Not surprisingly, the bottle was still closed after the 30 seconds or so it took for the Senate to adjourn. He then brought on correspondent John Oliver to describe the appointment process– and the mess therein should anyone try to prove it was illegal in some way, before mocking all of America for abandoning constitutional monarchy.
