Kaitlan Collins Says Trump Officials Are ‘Frustrated’ Because the Epstein ‘News Cycle Is Only Getting Worse for Them’

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins said officials in President Donald Trump’s administration are increasingly frustrated over a vicious news cycle of their own making.

In a memo obtained by Axios on Sunday, the Department of Justice and the FBI said that contrary to popular belief, deceased child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein did not have a client list featuring powerful figures. The memo reiterated the DOJ’s conclusion that Epstein committed suicide by strangulation in a jail cell in 2019. Many people, especially supporters of Trump, have expressed anger and disappointment after Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel had promised major document dumps from the case. Patel and Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino are reportedly considering resigning over Bondi’s handling of the case.

Collins appeared on Friday’s AC360 on CNN, where Anderson Cooper asked if Trump will need to pick sides in the DOJ power struggle.

“Will it boil down to who President Trump supports more – Pam Bondi or Kash Patel, or Dan Bongino?” Cooper asked.

“It could,” Collins said. “We have heard that Kash Patel is outright threatening to resign. I think he’s sympathetic to Dan Bongino, who is his number two, and they work very closely together. There’s just a wall that separates their offices.”

Collins noted that conspiracy theorist and Trump ally Laura Loomer, who has been influential in this White House before, has been pushing for Bondi’s ouster, though she added that “that does not seem likely.”

“What it shows, Anderson, is that this is all kind of their own making, because Kash Patel, Dan Bongino, and Pam Bondi were three of the officials who pushed a lot of the information when it came to Jeffrey Epstein,” Collins added. “And so officials inside the White House are very frustrated because they feel like this news cycle is only getting worse for them. It is not from people that they can easily dismiss or say it’s the media or Democrats. It is their own base that is so furious and so angry over how they’ve handled this. And the question is how they get out of it.”
