Kristol: ‘No Democrat Running for Reelection’ Believes Obamacare’s Working
On This Week With George Stephanopoulos Monday morning, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol took issue with Obama advisor David Plouffe’s statement that the Affordable Care Act was working, arguing you could only hold that opinion if you weren’t running for anything.
“The law’s working,” Plouffe said. “But the politics are tough. They will always be tough. I think they’ll get better over time. The law is working, and the Republican playbook of ‘repeal Obamacare’ gets tough as more and more people get health care.”
“No actual Democratic senator running for reelection sounds like David Plouffe,” Kristol said. “They’re not saying ‘this law’s working,’ they’re saying ‘Oh my god, we can fix it, here’s some new proposals!'”
“The Republican House won’t do that,” Stephanopoulos said.
“I don’t think the Democratic Senate will do it!” Kristol said. “I don’t think the Obama administration supports those proposals. They’ve resisted every attempt for minor fixes and delays in Obamacare, except for the ones they unilaterally wanted. In the real world, of real politics, the Democratic senators know it’s a big problem for them.”
