Last Night’s Simpsons Intro Paid Tribute to David Letterman
David Letterman is stepping down from his late night perch next year, and his year-long farewell got quite the tribute last night on The Simpsons. In honor of Letterman, the show’s signature couch gag culminated in the titular family ending up in the Late Show studio.
The intro shows the Simpson family racing through New York City just to get to the studio, but Letterman is none too pleased about it and they get played out with the theme song.
This isn’t the first time Letterman’s been used in a Simpsons couch gag, a similar gag was used on the show all the way back in season five.
[UPDATE: The gag first aired in 2012 and was re-purposed for the tribute last night.]
