Lawmaker Reveals What’s In First Batch of DOJ Epstein Docs Released To Congress: ‘Only 3%’ Are ‘New’
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) accused the Department of Justice of “stonewalling” after handing over the first batch of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents to Congress.
Khanna joined Eugene Daniels and Jonathan Capehart on MSNBC’s The Weekend on Saturday where he revealed that after a review of the DOJ documents, they’ve found just 3% were previously unreleased.
“Let me break some news this morning. Our lawyers were up all night, and we now have a fact that only 3% of the documents that were given to us were new. 97% were already in the public domain. And less than 1% of the Epstein files have actually been released. The Epstein files are 300 gigabits. We know this because that’s what the FBI has said. And they’ve released less than one gigabit,” Khanna said.
The Justice Department turned over documents on Friday afternoon in compliance with a subpoena from the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee for more documents related to convicted child sex predator Epstein.
“Bottom line, they’re stonewalling and not releasing things,” Khanna said.
The Democrat previously teamed up with Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) to push for a full release of Epstein documents from the federal government.
The latest information to be released to the public related to Epstein are audio recordings and transcripts from prison interviews with Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate and one-time girlfriend of Epstein. She is currently serving 20 years for sex trafficking after the Department of Justice said she conspired for decades to abuse minors with Epstein.
“Of the 3% of the documents that are new, can you tell us what’s new?” Daniels asked Khanna on Saturday.
“There are some transcripts related to the Maxwell prosecution, there is some evidence related to Epstein’s death, nothing that is sensational or adding significant information. What is not new, what is missing is the central concern, which is who else was involved, who was on these flights, who engaged in illegal behavior and abuse of underage women. That is simply missing in terms of what they’ve released,” Khanna said.
The congressman added that there is no indication when the next batch of documents will be handed over.
“Their strategy is, let’s just have a drip, drip, drip, and hope this issue goes away. I mean, you remember the speaker shut down the entire Congress because he didn’t want to vote on Matthew and my bill to release all the files. He was hoping that the subpoena goes away, so they’re just going to keep delaying.”
