Lindsey Graham Laments Republicans ‘Have a Lot of Personality Problems’ That Go ‘Deeper’ Than Trump
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said the Republican Party has “a lot of personality problems” after being asked why former President Donald Trump is losing ground in the polls to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Harris became the presumptive nominee last month when President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid. Biden was behind markedly in several swing state polls, though Harris is now enjoying a surge and she and Trump are running neck and neck.
Graham appeared on Monday’s edition of The Source on CNN, where he discussed policy differences and the state of the race.
“You’re a close confidant of Donald Trump’s,” host Kaitlan Collins said. “Why do you think he has struggled… now that Harris is at the top of the ticket? You had said it would be a drastically, dramatically different race. Why do you think these last two weeks have been so difficult for him as he’s been up against her?”
The senator responded by saying Trump will be more focused, though just hours before, the former president fired off two social media posts referring to the vice president as “Kamabla.” That came less than a week after Trump ludicrously claimed Harris had “turned Black.”
“I think you’re gonna see a very focused Donald Trump and a Republican effort from everybody to focus on the policy choices she’s made,” Graham told Collins. “He believes he’s the best guy to fix the problems we have at home and abroad. And to do that, you gotta win… So, I am hopeful. Our problems are personality. Their problems are policy choices that are hurting the average American and set the world on fire. If we can get our personality problems fixed, we will win this election ’cause their policies are never gonna be fixed by them.”
Collins homed in on Graham’s comment about “personality.”
“Interesting to hear you say ‘personality’ problems are your party’s issues,” she said as Graham chuckled. “Obviously, Donald Trump’s personality. Senator, let me get your take on this–”
“It’s deeper than him,” Graham said. “I promise you there. We have a lot of personality problems in our party.”
