Lindsey Graham: ‘More Likely’ Taliban ‘Didn’t Know Zawahri Was In Kabul’ Than Inflation Bill Actually Bringing Down Inflation
The Inflation Reduction Act continues to face Republican opposition, with Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham comparing the likelihood of it actually reducing inflation to the idea that the border is secure and thinking the Taliban did not know now-deceased Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was in Kabul.
Appearing on Fox & Friends on Friday, Graham predicted taxes introduced in the inflation bill will increase costs for consumers, and pointed to a recent CBO (Congressional Budget Office) report on the bill as proof it will have very little effect, if at all.
Graham said:
Well, the CBO says next year inflation will go up or down 0.1%. So that’s not much of a reduction. This bill has tax increases on imported oil. The taxes in the bill will be passed on to consumers at the $75,000 or below level. The subsidies for Obamacare go to people who make $304,000 as a family of four. It is a bunch of B.S. that it will reduce inflation. It’s about as accurate as saying the border’s secure and the Taliban didn’t know Zawahri was in Kabul. This is a fraud. It’s a lie. It’s going to make every problem worse.
Republican lawmakers have had harsh words for the Inflation Reduction Act. During a Fox News appearance this week, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) referred to the bill as a “special kind of stupid” that will push more Americans into poverty. As he put it, the inflation bill will drive more Americans to “live in a tent behind Whataburger.”
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has said he disagrees with concerns that the bill could raise taxes and costs.
“We never raised any taxes. We’re just saying close the loopholes and collect the taxes that are owed to the Treasury and the United States people,” Manchin told CNN about the bill.
