Maddow On Dick Armey Quitting Tea Party Group: GOP Seems To Be ‘Imploding Since The Election’

On her show tonight, Rachel Maddow checked in on the surprising fallout between former House majority leader Dick Armey and Tea Party group FreedomWorks. Maddow used the friction between the two to highlight how the right appears to be slowly but surely “imploding” in the aftermath of last month’s presidential election.

Maddow highlighted that Armey has asked his name and image be taken off any material connected to the organization, and that his agreement to step down from the group included an 8 million dollar severance. Publicly, Maddow pointed out, Armey has called his departure from the group “a matter of principle.”

Maddow also brought up a new report showing that Armey and FreedomWorks clashed over the profits of a book deal made by Matt Kibbe, the president of the organization. Armey left after the election because of concerns that had he left before Election Day, the media would have gone wild with tales of friction within the Tea Party.

Maddow used the Armey-FreedomWorks fracas to conclude that “the right seems to be imploding since the election,” but it appears the big implosion is going to happen gradually, “day by day by day.”
