MAGA-Clad Rally-Goer Compares Trump to Jesus: ‘Everybody Is Against Him’

A man attending a rally for Donald Trump on Sunday likened the former president to Jesus of Nazareth because he faces ardent opposition.

NBC News Correspondent Vaughn Hillyard spoke with Trump supporters outside his rally in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend and asked them why they support his bid to return to the White House. President Joe Biden narrowly defeated Trump in the state by less than three percentage points in 2020.

“He’s gonna win and he’s going to bring our country back,” a woman at the rally told Hillyard. “He’s gonna save us. That’s how I feel.”

Hillyard noted that Trump has recently been asked about exacting revenge on his political rivals and those responsible for his four criminal prosecutions, one of which has resulted in a conviction.

“He was asked this week about retribution,” he told her. “What does that look like to you?”

“He’s not gonna get angry,” she stated. “He’s got too much to fix. He’s not a vengeful person.”

The former president has explicitly told his supporters, “I am your retribution.” Earlier this month, he said it is “very possible” he will prosecute his enemies. Last week, Fox News host Sean Hannity tried and failed to get Trump to explicitly state he will not seek revenge.

Another rally-goer Hillyard spoke with compared Trump to Jesus. The man donned a hat reading, “Trump” and a shirt that said, “1776.”

“I mean, you think about Jesus Christ himself, everyone went against him because he was preaching love and doing what was right for the people,” he said. “And Trump’s doing what’s right for this nation. And because he’s doing that, everybody is against him.”
