Maria Bartiromo Grills Kellyanne on Trump’s Gun Claims: ‘Is He Ignoring the Constitution?’

White House adviser Kellyanne Conway went on Fox Business Network’s Mornings With Maria to discuss President Donald Trump’s recent comments suggesting that someone’s guns should be taken away if police identify them as a potential threat, foregoing due process.

“Obviously, this is a very troubling comment,” Bartiromo said. “What did the president mean exactly by that? Is he ignoring the Constitution? And taking someone’s property before due process?”

“No, not at all, and the president respects the Constitution, including the Second Amendment and the five million or so members of the NRA who are law-abiding, peaceful gun owners,” Conway said. “What the president is saying is in light of Parkland… everybody is so frustrated at the breakdown in the system, the fact that this individual was known to local law enforcement, federal law enforcement…the president is saying sometimes these processes take too long talking about a case such as this, which we hope is an extreme case…if not [an] avoidable case.”

“But is president going to clarify that he, in fact, is not going to ignore the Constitution and take somebody’s property before due process?” Bartiromo pressed.

In a complete non-sequitur, Conway said: “The president told me last night that there are elements of Manchin-Toomey that he supports,” and proceeded to talk about how the president – unlike some before him, in her mind – has been transparent about the negotiations he has with Congress.

Bartiromo tried once again to force Conway to focus on the due process comment, but to no avail, which led the two women to start speaking over each other in a contentious back and forth.
