Matt Lauer Congratulates Amy Poehler on Non-Existent Golden Globes Nom

When the Today show’s Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie met up with Golden Globe hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on the red carpet pre-show Sunday night, Lauer began by saying, “We’ve got our hosts and we have a nominee. Amy is nominated for Parks and Recreation and Tina and Amy are hosting for the third and final time?”
One problem: Poehler isn’t nominated. She’s been nominated for seven Emmy Awards without ever winning and finally won the Globe last year for Parks and Rec. But this year, she was edged out by newcomer Gina Rodriguez from the CW’s Jane the Virgin.
The actress opted not to correct Lauer, saving him the embarrassment — at least, on air — of getting such a fundamental fact wrong. Maybe the whole thing was just wishful thinking from one NBC star to another?
Guthrie ended the interview by saying, “See you next year” to the pair.
“We’ll never be here again,” Fey replied. “We’ll never get nominated for anything again. Bye, America.”
