Meghan McCain and Joy Behar Lock Horns Over Covid-19 Vaccine: ‘Excuse Me, Can I Please Finish a Sentence?’
Meghan McCain and Joy Behar got heated on Thursday’s The View, going after each other over Dr. Anthony Fauci’s Covid-19 vaccine messaging.
“You know, he has to be diplomatic for some reason,” Behar said of Fauci’s messaging. “He doesn’t want to upset people. He doesn’t want to step on people’s civil liberties. But I don’t have to be that way. You know what, it’s not that complicated, people. It’s not nuclear physics. All you have to do is get the damn vaccine. When you go inside, wear a mask, even if you have the vaccine. There might be variants around. Wear the damn vaccine. And then get the booster when that time is coming.”
Behar went on to question what has been so complicated about the messaging on vaccines, yet she herself claimed vaccinated Americans should be masking up, while the CDC guidelines say otherwise.
“I don’t understand. This is just to own the libs? Maybe they’re not seeing enough on television the way people suffer when they get this disease. Even though the numbers are going down, people are still dying from it, and maybe they’re not seeing it.”
McCain later slammed Fauci’s messaging around the vaccine as “absolute garbage,” adding that the CDC and the White House have “done a terrible job.”
She noted the hesitancy in the Black American community, adding that women are concerned about fertility issues after taking the vaccine.
“The fact that there hasn’t been a summit, or a discussion, or figures that people trust on TV to try and help quell some of this, that’s why the conspiracy theories keep growing and spreading,” McCain said, adding, “And just saying, ‘What you just wanna own the libs?’ And that’s that? Like, it’s not productive, that’s why people keep going into their corners.”
The host added that people are coming from a place of fear as opposed to politics, noting that it is a luxury to have the vaccine before going after the size of the vaccine card, claiming it is not “responsible.”
“A lot of people of color have every right to be skeptical of the government,” Behar added. “They have been burnt for generations by various — what should we put it — policies.”
“I’m not saying they aren’t,” McCain cut in, prompting Behar to say, “Excuse me, I’m not done.”
“Republicans have reasons to be nervous for others — I’m not trying to judge,” McCain added. “I want as many people vaccinated in as many ways, but I think when you come on the show and just say, ‘oh, we’re owning the libs,’ it’s just factually inaccurate about the demographics who are not getting the vaccine.”
Behar then said that a lot of people who don’t want to get vaccinated are watching Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, which McCain claimed is not true.
The two began talking over each other as McCain claimed those who are hesitant to take the vaccine are “highly educated women.”
“Anti-vaxxers in Los Angeles –” McCain continued as Behar shouted, “Excuse me, can I please finish a sentence?!”
