Mika Brzezinski On Rich And Poor Disparity: Wealthy Are ‘Living Shamelessly’

You might have noticed our earlier post today about a New York Times article detailing how wealthy Americans are doling out money on luxury goods at a time when many others are scrimping and saving. This morning, Morning Joe‘s Mika Brzezinski also drew attention to the article:

“Talking about the wealthy and the dilemma that we’re in…,” she began. “Front page of The New York Times has this Bloomberg story and Mubarak, but I’m lookin’ at this. Ok. It’s a woman buying a 1,500 dollar pair of shoes.” She then read a portion of the original article before commenting that “there is a certain sector of our society that’s doing just fine. Just fine.”

After the group cleared up exactly how many shoes $1,500 can buy, contributor Mike Barnicle weighed in, drawing attention to the aforementioned article on Mayor Mike Bloomberg donating “billions” to a fund trying to improve the lives of poorer New Yorkers. “The disparity,” he noted, “between rich and poor in this city is enormous.”

“Rich and poor, black and white,” added Joe Scarborough. “The wealthy are getting wealthier,” he continued. “There has been a great recovery in this county if you’re rich. Wall Street profits are booming. The Wall Street Journal said corporate profits are higher than they’ve been in five years. But they’re not hiring people. The rich… since 2008, the rich have been getting richer for a long time, the poor have been getting poorer, but this recovery, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it where the middle class and the poor are getting worse while the wealthy are getting faster, richer exponentially.”

Brzezinski then added that the wealthy were “living shamelessly.” Well, then. I’ll just keep this diamond encrusted “MIKA” tiara for myself.
