MSNBC Anchor Asks Why Republicans Aren’t Investigating Trump-Epstein Letter ‘Forgery’ If They Think It’s ‘Fake’
MSNBC’s Ana Cabrera asked why Republicans are not investigating President Donald Trump’s claim that an alleged letter he wrote to convicted child predator Jeffrey Epstein is fake.
Cabrera was joined on Wednesday by Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) to discuss the House Oversight Committee reviewing documents from the Epstein estate.
While discussing the alleged Trump letter to Epstein, Cabrera cut to Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) pointing out how “absurd” the argument is that the letter is a “hoax.”
The Wall Street Journal first reported on the birthday letter, which was allegedly signed by Trump and included a sketch of a nude woman around the note.
Trump and his White House have claimed that the letter is fake and Trump never drew the sketch or signed the document. A number of outspoken MAGA supporters have also questioned the legitimacy of the letter on social media.
“A hoax, what, 10, 20 years in the making? If the letter is a hoax, it seems like, hopefully they could do some kind of forensics on it and figure that out so we don’t have to debate the knowable. But I think it’s a distraction, really, from what Ro Khanna and I are trying to accomplish,” Massie said this week.
Massie and Khanna are leading an effort to release more documents related to Epstein’s case. The billionaire died of an apparent suicide in 2019 while being charged with sex trafficking. He and Trump were former friends and the alleged letter was written in 2003, which would have been while the two were still communicating.
“So he points out how absurd the hoax argument seems related to the letter. I mean, if these Republicans all believe it’s a fake, why isn’t someone investigating the alleged forgery then? Isn’t that a serious matter trying to frame or impersonate the president like this?” Cabrera asked after the Massie clip.
“You would think so, but there’s nothing there for them to investigate,” Lynch said. “The custody of the letter in itself gives validity to that piece of evidence. So we’ll just keep digging.”
