MSNBC Loses to Al Jazeera America in Key Demo for 2 Hours Again

ajam_msnbc-300x191Almost exactly two months ago, MSNBC lost to Al Jazeera America (AJAM) during two hours of its daytime programming in key 25-54 demo viewership. It happened again this week.

We broke that rather astonishing ratings loss with the pretext that the network had just undergone a revamping with the cancellation of Joy Reid‘s and Ronan Farrow‘s shows, and a new focus on hard news over ’round-the-clock progressive commentary. AJAM, on the other hand, is a network that hit a zero in the demo just 16 months prior.

On Wednesday, May 27, AJAM defeated MSNBC in the demo again for two hours of daytime coverage.

During the 10 a.m. hour, AJAM’s news hour racked up 10K demo viewers, narrowly beating out MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown‘s 9K demo rating. And then again during the 2 p.m. hour, AJAM’s news hour narrowly beat MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts, 16K to 15K.

Of course, this is not to suggest AJAM is now overtaking MSNBC in the ratings overall: During the primetime (8-11 p.m.) hours, MSNBC had 135K demo viewers, versus AJAM’s mere 16K demo. And even during the 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. hours of programming, MSNBC had a 23K demo viewers compared to AJAM’s 7K.
