MSNBC Segment With Candace Owens Derails: You ‘Reduce Everything to Narcissistic Self-Preoccupation!’
MSNBC’s Ari Melber invited on Candace Owens tonight for a debate with Michael Eric Dyson and it didn’t take long for things to go off the rails.
Melber first brought up President Trump‘s rhetoric to ask Owens, “Do you think he is embracing a type of racial division that is problematic for us to operate as a civil society?”
She didn’t address Trump’s remarks directly and said they should be talking about the recent crime and killings in Chicago, saying she doesn’t like “tearing apart the black community for the sake of television” and claiming MSNBC “always invites me on to do that.”
Melber responded, “You knew what you were invited to discuss, and we’re happy you’re here. It’s very important to me and this show that we have these conversations and invite a lot of people of all perspectives. If there’s a problem with that, I think you knew what the invite was to begin with.”
Dyson went on to criticize Trump’s racial divisiveness and argue, “If we’re going to be honest about Donald Trump, he has not helped black people, he has not enabled African-American people to move forward. He’s riding a crest and a wave of economic prosperity put in place by his predecessor Barack Obama.”
He concluded, “If we’re concerned about black people, we’ve got to be concerned about poverty, inequality, lack of access to education, plus the… sorts of violence we see directed toward black people in this country.”
Owens shot back, “I am a black conservative and I am not hearing anything said about the fact that about 25 white Democrats assembled to kick me out of a restaurant yesterday to throw water and to throw eggs at me because I’m a conservative that supports Donald Trump.”
She defended Trump’s record before going back to yesterday’s incident, saying, “How is it plausible, professor, that you allow this to happen to your community because you decided that because we’re ideological conservatives, you are okay with this.”
Dyson responded, “I haven’t said a word… I said nothing about you.”
Owens went on to argue that black conservatives are being attacked because their support of Trump.
As she continued Melber jumped in and said, “I don’t want to have to talk over people, but we have to go back and forth… We’re going to have to take a pause there. Couple things. You’re making a personal attack on the other guest.”
He added that the topic of debate is Trump policy and not the harassment she and Charlie Kirk faced.
“It’s a Democrat policy, Maxine Waters,” Owens responded. “‘When you see them in restaurants, go up to them.’ It’s a Democrat policy.”
Dyson responded to Owens by saying, “I did not point these people toward you. I think it’s reprehensible that any human being is put out of a particular establishment because of her ideology. I think that that’s problematic. I did not suggest that. Number two, yeah, you are black and I am black, but that doesn’t mean that automatically we agree on everything.”
He went on to tell her she’s reduced the argument to “narcissistic self-preoccupation,” to which Owens shot back, “I have said nothing narcissistic. I’m haven’t been talking about myself on this network. I’m talking about Trump.”
As the cross-talk continued Melber ended the segment.
