MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle Defends Ivanka: ‘Not Fair’ to Say She’s Only as Qualified as Kanye to Replace Nikki Haley
As speculation abounds over whether Ivanka Trump will replace Nikki Haley as Ambassador to the United Nations, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle seems to be treating the idea as a very real possibility.
While Ivanka is reportedly laughing off the notion of replacing Haley, Ruhle held a panel discussion on Tuesday to address the reasons why so many people think President Trump will give the job to his daughter. As the group discussed the political profiles of Ivanka and Jared Kushner, Panelist David Rothkopf brought up the reasons why Ivanka’s ambassadorship might not happen.
“Ivanka Trump is under investigation by the state of New York for problems with their charity,” Rothkopf argued. “If you want to go and…nominate a celebrity for this job, why don’t we go to the White House now? The president’s having lunch with Kanye [West]. Kanye’s just as qualified as Ivanka.”
Ruhle pushed back, saying the comparison to Kanye was “not fair” and that Ivanka is definitely more qualified than West for the position after working for her father’s administration.
“She’s without a doubt more qualified for the job and has spent the last two years in Washington,” Ruhle countered. “There’s no equivalency between Kanye and Ivanka.”
Rothkopf stuck to his guns though, arguing that Ivanka is embroiled in “a whole bunch of ethical issues,” and he doesn’t find her a substantial, “legitimate” candidate for a U.S. ambassador.
