Nancy Pelosi Scoffs at Matt Gaetz’s Vow to Oust Kevin McCarthy: ‘He Has No Sway’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) took a condescending view of Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) declaring his plan to oust her successor, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

Pelosi spoke with Jake Tapper shortly after the CNN anchor’s interview with Gaetz — where the far-right congressman promised a motion to vacate against McCarthy. Pelosi, in response, called Gaetz a “fraud” for claiming that his gripes with McCarthy stems from their disagreements on spending.

“These are people who gave a tax cut to the richest people in America to the cost of $2 trillion to our national debt when [Donald Trump] was president of the United States,” she said. “Two trillion to the national debt, and that was to give 83 percent of the benefits to the top 1 percent.”

Pelosi concluded by pronouncing the Gaetz-McCarthy feud “a values debate,” and she told Tapper “You’re wasting your time on that guy, because he has no sway in the House of Representatives.” The only sway Pelosi granted to Gaetz was in his ability “to get on TV and to raise money on the Internet.”
