NBC Freelancer Who Contracted Ebola: Christie ‘Playing Politics’
Ashoka Mukpo, the freelance photojournalist who was working with an NBC crew in Liberia when he contracted Ebola, weighed in on how states like New York and New Jersey are dealing with quarantining health care workers. The case getting the most attention right now is that of Kaci Hickox, who returned from Africa and was asymptomatic, but was placed in quarantine and held there at the direction of Governor Chris Christie.
Hickox is so upset, she’s considering filing a lawsuit against Christie for violating her civil rights. And Mukpo believes Hickox is completely in the right on this.
“Governor Christie is playing politics right now,” he said. “It seems to me that it’s an effort to, you know, work with public opinion rather than listening to the advice of the experts.”
Mukpo told Don Lemon that health care workers putting their lives on the line to help others abroad shouldn’t be treated in such a horrible way when they return to their home country.
