NYT D.C. Bureau Chief: ‘We Have a Story Ready’ For John Kelly’s Firing
With all the high-profile departures from the Trump Administration in recent months, New York Times‘ Elisabeth Bumiller revealed on Morning Joe Tuesday that the paper has a pre-written story in case embattled Chief of Staff John Kelly gets the boot from President Donald Trump.
The Times‘ Washington D.C. bureau chief was asked about the recent indications that Kelly has been losing clout within the Trump Administration. Willie Geist noted that Trump left Kelly in Washington during Easter so he could pal around with Fox News hosts and other friendly faces over the weekend.
“We have a story ready to go that he’s been fired, but it looks like he’ll be around a little bit longer,” Bumiller revealed.
Geist later asked her to clarify whether she had some inside info on Kelly’s impending ouster, and Bumiller conceded that in this White House, the Times prepares for any potential firing: “we have stories ready to go on the firing of many people in the administration just so we can move something quickly.”
