Pam Bondi Tries To Claim Boston Isn’t Safe by Citing Crimes That Happened in Other Places

Attorney General Pam Bondi insisted that Boston, one of the safest cities in the U.S., is actually not safe by citing anecdotal evidence that happened in other municipalities.

President Donald Trump has so far deployed the National Guard in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., ostensibly to combat crime. The administration has also increased the number of federal immigration officers in the nation’s capital amid its ongoing crackdown on undocumented immigrants. Trump is threatening similar actions in other cities controlled by Democrats.

Bondi appeared on Friday’s Hannity on Fox News, a day after the Department of Justice sued Boston, alleging that the city’s “sanctuary” policies are an “intentional effort to obstruct” the enforcement of immigration laws. Mayor Michelle Wu blasted that claim and said the city is not harboring criminals. The Massachusetts attorney general ripped the lawsuit as ” yet another desperate attempt to rope local governments into helping the Trump Administration conduct their cruel immigration crackdowns.”

“Michelle Wu is one of the worst offenders in the entire country,” Bondi told Sean Hannity. “She says Boston is safe. It’s not”

Bondi then rattled off three cases to attempt to underscore a crime problem in Boston.

“A Haitian national was charged with raping a child in a migrant center,” she said. “An 18-year-old illegal alien from Haiti molested a 10-year-old child. An illegal from El Salvador – 11 counts of rape against a child.”

The attorney general then appeared to qualify that she was talking about the Boston area.

“I could go on and on about the crimes in the Boston area,” Bondi said. “So, if she’s not gonna protect the people of Boston, we are.”

Each of the alleged crimes Bondi mentioned occurred outside of Wu’s jurisdiction.

The case involving the migrant center allegedly happened in Rockland, Massachusetts, which is about 20 miles from Boston. Meanwhile, the case involving the 18-year-old allegedly occurred in Mansfield, Massachusetts, which is about 30 miles from Boston. Finally, the case involving the Salvadoran national happened in Nantucket, which is off the Massachusetts mainland and more than 100 miles from the state capital.

Last year, Boston logged its lowest homicide rate since 1957, and violent crime in general continued on a downward trajectory.
