Peter Beinart Accuses ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt of Caring More About ‘Silencing Palestinians’ Than Stopping the ‘White Nationalism of Elon Musk’
MSNBC political analyst Peter Beinart accused Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO Jonathan Greenblatt of caring more about “silencing Palestinians and people who criticize Israel” than “stopping the white nationalism of Elon Musk.”
During an appearance on MSNBC’s The Mehdi Hasan Show, Sunday, Beinart criticized Greenblatt for praising Musk’s “leadership in fighting hate” just days after he accused the billionaire of using his “influence to validate and promote antisemitic theories.”
“What’s going on is that Jonathan Greenblatt cares more about silencing Palestinians and people who criticize Israel than he does about stopping the white nationalism of Elon Musk,” said Beinart to host Mehdi Hasan, before arguing that Musk should also ban pro-Israel “from the river to the sea” slogans if he’s going to ban pro-Palestine slogans.
“It makes no sense,” Beinart continued. “Because Jonathan Greenblatt is so concerned about criticism of Israel, he’s willing to essentially praise a man who’s been engaging in the most naked anti-Semitism just a couple days before.”
Last week, after Musk announced that he would suspend users who use the terms “decolonization” and “from the river to the sea” when talking about Israel — arguing that they “imply genocide” and are “clear calls for extreme violence” — Greenblatt praised Musk.
“This is an important and welcome move by @elonmusk. I appreciate this leadership in fighting hate,” the ADL CEO reacted.
Just days prior, however, Greenblatt had accused Musk of promoting anti-Semitism after Musk reacted, “You have said the actual truth,” to a post which claimed, “Jewish communties [sic] have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.”
“At a time when antisemitism is exploding in America and surging around the world, it is indisputably dangerous to use one’s influence to validate and promote antisemitic theories. #NeverIsNow,” wrote Greenblatt in response.
