Richard Painter Battles Tucker Carlson Over ‘Spygate’: Is Fox ‘a News Channel or a Fiction Channel?’

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson battled it out with former White House chief ethics counsel and current Senate candidate Richard Painter in a pre-taped interview on Fox News which Painter touted on Twitter as exposing the truth on “Spygate and other make believe.”

It did not disappoint.

It all started when Carlson asked him this: “We know an FBI and CIA informant on the government payroll made contact with at least three members of the Trump campaign during the campaign, gathered information from them surreptitiously and passed it back to the [Barack] Obama Administration. You can argue that’s justified and I’m open-minded. That’s fine, tell me why it’s not spying?”

Painter had a ready answer.

“The Speaker of the House of Representatives has already talked about this, Paul Ryan, Rep. [Trey] Gowdy, Rich Burr over in the United States Senate Intelligence Committee…And there is a consensus among Republicans and Democrats because they have seen the relevant information including a lot of them have seen the classified information which I have not seen and neither has Fox News,” Painter said, noted that those in the know agree that the so-called ‘Spygate’ is not a real thing.

Painter then scolded: “I don’t know if this is a news channel or a fiction channel, we need to focus on the facts here.”

Then after Carlson tried to combat Painter’s claims, he declared, “Stop with the insults. I’m not making up stories” before, after battling it out a bit, more drawing the segment to a conclusion telling Painter, “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
