HLN host S.E. Cupp called out President Donald Trump’s “fragile ego” after he opted to disinvite the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the customary Super Bowl champion White House visit
“President Ego didn’t want to be embarrassed when only a handful of players and staff showed up to his little shindig, so he’ll just make up a lie and see if it sticks — and Fox will run with it!” Cupp said on today’s Unfiltered, referencing Trump lying about Eagles players kneeling for the national anthem. “Last night, Fox aired a segment on the cancellation implying through stills and video that Eagles players had knelt for the anthem, but they weren’t kneeling for the anthem––they were kneeling in prayer before the game. Yikes.”
As for the Fox News segment, last night the right-wing cable news network aired a photo of Eagles players kneeling in an attempt to portray them as anthem protesters. However, the photo was actually of Eagles players praying before a game and not of a protest, which resulted in Fox News apologizing for the controversy.
The president’s attack against the Eagles was issued via tweet this morning, as Trump posted the following in an attempt to justify his decision to cancel the team’s visit:
The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!

Cupp finished the segment by asking a rhetorical question: “So, was this about patriotism or the president’s fragile ego?”
