S.E. Cupp Tears Into Steve King: ‘A Cancer on the Country’
Congressman Steve King (R-IA) has come under renewed scrutiny this week for asking how terms like “white nationalist” and “white supremacist” became offensive. King tried to clarify his comments in a subsequent statement, but he has been roundly condemned by a number of Republicans (including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy).
Today King defended himself on the House floor, calling himself an “American nationalist.”
On CNN, S.E. Cupp told Brianna Keilar that President Donald Trump himself basically gave King permission to use the word “nationalist” after using it himself.
“Steve King is a bigot, he’s a homophobe, he’s an anti-Semite, he’s a racist,” Cupp said. “He’s a cancer on the country. And if you’re the Republican party, you don’t cure cancer with vitamins, you cure it with radiation… What I’ve heard from Republicans has been vitamins.”
And it’s time to get him out of office, she added.
King was reelected in November in a race that received some attention after he made a few remarks so rancid that at the time NRCC chair Rep. Steve Stivers denounced him in a tweet saying, “We must stand up against white supremacy and hate in all forms, and I strongly condemn this behavior.”
Politico’s John Bresnahan noted to Keilar that there’s a few options Congress could take, including a censure motion. Cupp agreed and said, “Voting against racism should not be a hard vote.”
He added that Republicans should all be on record denouncing King and saying they want nothing to do with him.
