Sandra Smith Presses McEnany on Trump Dismissing Coronavirus Ahead of Rallies in Covid-Stricken States
Fox News’ Sandra Smith questioned White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany on why President Donald Trump continues to dismiss the coronavirus, even as he campaigns in pandemic hot zones.
On America’s Newsroom, Smith took notice of Trump’s latest tweets complaining about the media’s focus on the pandemic that has killed over 225,000 Americans to date.
ALL THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA WANTS TO TALK ABOUT IS COVID, COVID, COVID. ON NOVEMBER 4th, YOU WON’T BE HEARING SO MUCH ABOUT IT ANYMORE. WE ARE ROUNDING THE TURN!!!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 27, 2020
From there, Smith noted that Trump is holding 2020 campaign events in Wisconsin and Nebraska today, both of which have seen a surge in Covid cases lately.
Their positive cases [in Wisconsin] are up 53 percent over two weeks. They’re at a 28 percent positivity rate, more than one in four tests is coming back positive. In Nebraska, where the president will also visit today, a 21.5 percent positivity rate. So does it help the president to continue to dismiss this virus and say we’re rounding a corner? Isn’t there an opportunity to lay out a very clear plan if he is reelected and how we’ll get rid of this thing?
McEnany answered that Trump’s plan for therapeutics is “working,” and she attacked Joe Biden while contrasting the ex-veep’s approach to Trump’s.
“The American people want freedom, they want to make choices for themselves, get out, open their businesses and schools and churches,” she said. “That’s what the president has done, but Joe Biden will lock this country down, devastate the economy and that’s the alternative.”
