SNL Cold Open Spoofs Trump Crashing ‘Hamilton’ — Lin-Manuel Miranda Breaks Character By Cracking Up at Wild Rant
Saturday Night Live’s cold open spoofed the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which Saturday was crashed by President Donald Trump and his ramblings about DEI, Elon Musk, his inauguration, and his son Barron Trump’s height.
The skit featured the country’s founders including Lin-Manuel Miranda of Hamilton appearing as Alexander Hamilton in a Broadway cameo.
Before Miranda could finish a rap about a new republic that would never have a “king” pulling away from monarchs, Trump – played by James Austin Johnson – interrupted.
“Never say never,” Johnson’s Trump said. “Kidding, of course. Though, in many ways, I’m not. I’m in my king era.”
Trump declared that “just like the Founding Fathers, I am creating a new country as well” and stated he was “doing it very wisely.:
“DEI is over. It’s dead,” he said before saying the country would soon look like episodes of The Office with a mostly White cast and one funny but disgruntled Balck character.
Trump added, “The inauguration was a tremendous success. It was inside due to cold and fear,” before he added, “We had a lot of surprise guests, like Melania. That was nice.”
He also joked about Musk’s allegedly putting up a Nazi salute in Washington on Inauguration Day – something Musk has disputed.
“They say he did the Nazi salute,” Johnson’s Trump declared. “Not true. Okay. He simply was creating a new greeting, a cross between ‘hi’ and ‘hello.’ We’re calling it a ‘heil.’” He continued:
We’re filling my cabinet with some of the best people. They’re all very good, except for most of them. Man. What is SNL going to do? Who’s going to play access? I mean, look at these guys back here. None of them got the build. Nobody has the job. Got plenty of Zuckerberg options, though. That’s going to be a fight. How great is Pete Hegseth? He said he was going to stop drinking if he got the job. And that’s all I needed to hear. I will never drink again. The famous promise people make right into the toilet. Good luck with that.
During another point during the show’s cold open, Trump said, “My new favorite son is Barron and he is smacking his head on every doorframe. It’s bad. It’s like when Gandalf goes to Bilbo’s house.”
Miranda proceeded to break character and laugh when Austin Johnson’s Trump took him on personally.
“He wrote a whole rap and he doesn’t get to do it,” Trump said, as Miranda was visibly fighting laughter. He added, “He’s within sniffing distance of an EGOT and he’s gotta stand there ’til I’m done. Linny, Linny, Linny, Linny.”
