SNL Cold Open Zings Congress & Gov’t Shutdown Using Gravity and NASA
Saturday Night Live‘s cold open this week took shots at the government shutdown by imagining the events of blockbuster film Gravity being exacerbated as a result of a defunded NASA program.
Kate McKinnon and Taran Killam floated about in “space” — referencing the Gravity roles of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney — calling for help from an empty NASA control room, shuttered by the government shutdown.
The only people who can hear their pleas for help are two janitors, who instead of aiding the astronauts, proceed to mock Congress, the government shutdown, and ask a series of inane questions.
