Stelter Chastises Guest For Calling Fox and Friends ‘Idiots’: ‘Why the Name Calling?’
During a segment analyzing Fox News’ coverage over the past few days — something CNN’s Brian Stelter labeled a “campaign of confusion” — the Reliable Sources host rebuked former Reagan adviser Bruce Bartlett after he called the hosts of Fox & Friends “idiots.”
Stelter highlighted the fact that Fox News has barely covered its own poll that shows President Donald Trump only has an approval rating of 38% and asked Bartlett to react to CNN covering the poll four times as much as Fox. Bartlett, however, decided to focus on an earlier clip Stelter had played showing Fox’s obsession with the Uranium One story.
“Your earlier video was extraordinarily interesting,” Bartlett said. “I think sometimes we get the cause and effect relationship backwards. We think, oh, we see this Hillary nonstory about uranium. We think the White House leaked it and encourage Fox to run with it.”
He continued, “I think it’s the other way around. The people at Fox are thinking what can we do to help Trump today. Well, let’s gin up the Hillary story again. And you yourself have reported on many occasions that those three idiots on Fox & Friends seem to be the president’s biggest advisers.”
“Hey. Why name call?” Stelter immediately interjected. “Why the name calling?”
Bartlett would justify his insult by stating that he believes you “have to call a spade a spade,” adding that he feels that one big problem in the media is “they’re afraid to say Trump is lying” and that the “people at Fox are just propaganda.”
Stelter would later weigh in on Twitter when someone noted that the president embraces name-calling.
Just because the prez does it, doesn't make it right… https://t.co/Hw7jdWFVMB
