Stephen Colbert Mocks Trump Approval Rating Slump – And His Remaining Diehard Supporters: ‘Who Are you?’

Stephen Colbert kicked off Tuesday night’s Late Show by mocking President Donald Trump’s nosediving ratings and calling out the “22.4% who strongly approve of him” – asking bluntly, “Who are you?”

The host pointed to figures published in a new national poll from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, taken after the conflict in Iran began, which showed Trump’s approval rating had dropped to 33% – the lowest level of his second term. The shift marks a 5-point decline since July 2025 and an 11-point drop compared with April last year.

“One third! That’s only one out of every three people. To put that into perspective, turn to your right. Now turn to your left. Both of those people are more popular than Donald Trump. So they did it. You all did it. That was lovely. Thank you,” Colbert said.

He continued, pivoting, “Trump’s other poll numbers are also pretty rough. On average, 47.2% of Americans strongly disapprove of him, but there are still 22.4% who strongly approve of him.”

“Who are you?” the host questioned, looking into the camera lens.

Colbert then launched into a goofy and exaggerated impersonation of the remaining Trump loyalists, mocking their defiant support despite the gas price spike resulting from Trump’s standoff with Iran: “Well, I want gas to be expensive. I want the Kennedy Center blowed up. And I know this is a pipe dream, but is there any way that maybe – maybe – we could get Denmark to hate us? Because… I would just love – I would just love it – if the price of licorice went up too!”
