Tapper: If WH Thinks the Press Should Be More Responsible with the Truth, What About Trump?
CNN’s Jake Tapper asked today if the White House’s concern about the press needing to be responsible with the truth extends to President Trump himself.
Earlier today, Trump tweeted this out:
Why Isn't the Senate Intel Committee looking into the Fake News Networks in OUR country to see why so much of our news is just made up-FAKE!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 5, 2017
During today’s press briefing, Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended the President’s “fake news” denunciations and said, “With the First Amendment, with those freedoms also come responsibilities. And you have a responsibility to tell the truth, to be accurate.”
“That is true,” Tapper said. “We do have a responsibility to tell the truth and be accurate. Does President Trump have that same responsibility?”
S.E. Cupp said “apparently not,” because the President feels he gets to be in the position of “verifying news.”
