Ted Cruz: ‘May Have Misspoken’ About John McCain
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) took a shot at his sometimes-rival Senator John McCain (R-AZ) this weekend, telling a New Hampshire that he’d been “pressing” McCain on a bill to allow concealed firearms on military bases. Problem: McCain had no idea what he was talking about, mocking Cruz to reporters yesterday.
On Fox News Tuesday morning Cruz kinda-sorta admitted he’d been wrong about pressing McCain specifically, though he didn’t concede much more than that.
“I may have misspoken in New Hampshire when I said that I’d been pressing John McCain when what I had been pressing is the Armed Services Committee,” Cruz said. “John McCain is the new chairman of it. So I sent a letter to the previous chairman, but I had not communicated that to John directly, although I had at a hearing and will continue to raise it with John McCain.”
Cruz added that McCain had “been present” at Armed Services Committee hearings when he had pressed the issue.
“I like John McCain,” Cruz added. “He can always be counted on for a good quote.”
