The Five Erupts Over Media Coverage of Obama Vs. Trump: They’re ‘Dishonest Democrat Party Hacks’
Shouts, arguments and accusations flew on The Five Thursday, as co-hosts of the Fox News show ripped the media’s coverage of President Donald Trump versus his predecessor, one even calling reporters propaganda-mongering hacks.
Following the decision of editorial boards around the country to slam Trump’s routine demonization of the press, Juan Williams praised the move, offering his support for reporters who frequently find themselves the target of the president’s unrelenting attacks.
“The legitimate purpose of the press is to be an adversary to people in power and hold them accountable,” Williams said, adding that it is the responsibility of reporters to call out “a guy who lies and lies.”
However, his colleagues didn’t feel the media’s treatment of Trump was fair, most obviously Jesse Watters, who went so far as to accuse reporters of acting as agents of the left, arguing they were soft on President Barack Obama.
“They’d have a lot more credibility if every administration that came around, they were this adversarial,” Watters said. “Donald Trump has exposed them as dishonest Democrat Party hacks. The media right now are extensions of the Democratic Party. They give him no credit for anything good he does and deny him all credit for anything he does.”
As Williams attempted to get a word in, asking Watters for examples while calling his remarks false, Watters continued on, arguing journalists were just frustrated over being criticized for what he said was biased work.
“Why they get so upset is because their credibility rests upon the fact that they pretend to be independent,” he said.
Responding, Williams felt Trump’s attitude toward the press was that of a monarch rather than a president.
“The only thing the king wants is somebody who will adore him, who will honor him, who will say, ‘Donald Trump’s the greatest ever,'” he said.
