The View Hits Schlapps For Hypocrisy: Bemoaning WHCD While Defending McCain Joke is ‘Disgusting’
There are a lot of people who really ought to have spoken up after it was leaked that White House aide Kelly Sadler said that John McCain‘s vote on CIA director nominee Gina Haspel didn’t matter because “he’s dying anyway,” but The View wanted to go after two in particular – prominent conservative Matt Schlapp, and his wife Mercedes Schlapp, who serves as the White House Director of Strategic Communications.
Matt Schlapp tried to defend Sadler on New Day this morning, saying that “Kelly is my friend, and I feel bad she is going through this.”
“She has showed character to immediately call to apologize, but she is also a little bit of a victim here,” he continued. “My view is that a confidential meeting… inside the White House, once you start commenting about leaks out of those meetings, you will never be able to appropriately run your agenda, and you shouldn’t comment on it.”
After a long tangent, Sunny Hostin said of Schlapp: “We need to call him out.”
He is a Notre Dame Catholic, he graduated from my alma mater and I spent a lot of time with him at the White House Correspondents weekend, and he and his wife walked out of Michelle Wolf‘s set because they were so freaking offended. Well, if you were so offended by that, Matt Schlapp and your wife, why are you not offended by what was said? Why were you not offended by that? Disgusting.
“[They] left the White House dinner and jumped to the afterparty immediately afterwards. They weren’t that offended,” Meghan McCain quipped.
Sara Haines added: “The victimization that they are talking about, I feel like they should not be ashamed people found out. They should be ashamed they said it in the first place.”
