The View Hosts Under Fire for Mocking Miss Colorado’s Nurse Outfit

Miss ColoradoABC’s The View has received harsh criticism from nurses after the hosts mocked a Miss America contestant who dressed up in scrubs as part of the talent section.

Nurses on Twitter created the hashtag #NursesUnite after host Joy Behar mocked Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson’s for reading a monologue about her experiences tending to Alzheimer’s patients. “Why does she have a doctor’s stethoscope on?” she asked during Monday’s show.

“She came in in a nurse’s uniform, and basically read her emails out loud,” complained co-host Michelle Collins as everyone laughed. “And shockingly did not win.”

But after a Twitter firestorm, The View hosts segued during a Wednesday segment on political correctness to sort-of, kind-of, not-really apologize. Collins insisted that they had been “taken out of context” by their critics, and that everyone on the show had the utmost respect for nurses.

“Did they hear the conversation?” agreed host Raven-Symone, “Did they know what you were talking about at all?”

Behar admitted she wasn’t paying attention during the segment. “I was looking at a Miss America tape and there’s a woman wearing like an outfit, and I’m thinking, ‘Is she in costume?’ I didn’t know she was a nurse.”

“It is not like I was trying to be funny,” she said before finally admitting, “It was stupid and inattentive on my part.”
