‘To Their Great Credit’: Fox’s Peter Doocy Praises Karine Jean-Pierre for Calling On Him Despite ‘A Lot of Tension’
Fox News senior correspondent Peter Doocy credited former President Joe Biden’s White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for consistently engaging with him in the briefing room, even amid what he describes as “very real” tension.
Doocy, who often went viral for his heated exchanges with Jean-Pierre and her predecessor Jen Psaki, noted that while he was often at odds with the administration the officials were always willing to face his tough questioning.
The journalist made the remarks in a video interview with Mediaite founding editor Colby Hall, who pressed him on the relationship between the “administration and the press.” Doocy noted that the “tension is very real” before paying a compliment to the government’s representatives.
I would say that in the briefing room, a lot of the tension is very real when you are confronting somebody about something that is uncomfortable for them or that they are going to have a very hard time explaining. But to their great credit, the Biden people continued to call on us.
They don’t call on everybody every day. And they knew pretty early on what they were going to get from me. And this is the president himself and both Jen Psaki and Karim Jean-Pierre. But they continued to engage and they would have people from their staff come down a couple of hours before the briefing and ask generally what we were interested in and we would engage with them because I’m not in there trying to make anybody look bad.
Doocy continued to note that while some of the interactions looked combative in clips taken from the briefings that the events were always professional and that there was never any “animosity.”
I know that some of this stuff gets distilled down into like a 15 second Twitter clip or something on Instagram reels. But they know that we have a huge audience that is interested in topics that the rest of the front row is not going to ask about. And they know that if something has been asked five different times by other people, we’re not going to cover it.
We had a professional relationship. I know that half the country doesn’t want to hear that. You know, people look at the questions or the answers and they have strong opinions about it, about me or about the press secretaries. But it was always very professional. I don’t think that there was ever any animosity. There definitely wasn’t for me.
Reflecting on his relationship with the two prominent press secretaries of the Biden era, Doocy pointed out key differences in their approach.
“Jen Psaki really relished the fight,” he said, contrasting her with Jean-Pierre, who he described as taking a more structured approach to providing the administration’s position. “Jen approached these things like it was going to be a fight, whereas Karine was approaching it like she was going to give an answer.”
