Trump Cryptically Says Fallon and Kimmel Will Be Canceled: ‘They’re Next’
President Donald Trump lashed out at late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday, predicting that they would be the next talkshow hosts to lose their jobs.
Trump took questions at the White House, where Brian Glenn of right-wing Real America’s Voice noted that CBS canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Glenn then claimed that Howard Stern and Sirius XM have “parted ways,” even though Stern’s contract expires in the fall and his status with the network is an open question, at least publicly.
Glenn asked the president, “Do you think the ‘hate Trump’ business model that’s been in the entertainment business is going out of business because it’s not popular with the American people?”
In his response, Trump predicted that Fallon and Kimmel would also be kicked off the air:
Well, it hasn’t worked. And it hasn’t worked, really, for a long time, and I would say pretty much from the beginning. Colbert has no talent. I mean, I could take anybody here. I could go outside in the beautiful streets and pick a couple of people that do just as well or better. They’d get higher ratings than he did. He’s got no talent.
Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They’re next. They’re gonna be going. I hear they’re gonna be going. I don’t know, but I would imagine because they’d get– you know, Colbert has better ratings than Kimmel or Fallon.
Regarding Stern, Trump went on to note that he used to appear on the shock jock’s program.
“I used to do his show,” the president said. “We used to have fun, but I haven’t heard that name in a long time.”
Last month, CBS announced that Stephen Colbert will depart the network when his contract expires in May and that The Late Show will be canceled entirely. The decision came two weeks after CBS parent company Paramount paid Trump $16 million to settle what legal experts called a frivolous lawsuit by Trump regarding an interview 60 Minutes conducted with former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Shortly after settling the suit and showing Colbert the door, the Trump administration approved a mega-merger between Paramount and Skydance.
