Trump Gushes About Fox Host’s Book — Hours After He Pushed for New Gun Laws on Air

President Donald Trump gushed about Fox News host Trey Gowdy’s book just hours after Gowdy broke with conservative orthodoxy by advocating new gun laws in the wake of the Minneapolis mass shooting.

A mass shooter shot through the windows of Annunciation Roman Catholic church in Minneapolis on Wednesday, killing two children, ages 8 and 10, and injuring 17 others. The shooter, later identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, took their own life.

Gowdy was part of the Fox News team covering the shooting on Wednesday afternoon’s edition of Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered, during which Gowdy repeatedly brought up enacting tougher gun laws as a way to prevent gun violence.

“We’re gonna have to have a conversation of freedom versus protecting children,” Gowdy said.

Hours later, on Wednesday night, Trump took to Truth Social to praise Gowdy and promote his new novel, The Color of Death:

“The Color of Death,” by Trey Gowdy, is a fantastic new book. People love it!!! Get it NOW! President DJT

It isn’t clear whether Trump saw Gowdy’s commentary, but it is possible the president saw Gowdy and co-host Emily Compagno praising him at the end of the show for being “gracious”:

EMILY COMPAGNO: And I have to note that the president even weighed in on this book. Writing on Truth Social quote “Number one New York Times best selling author Trey Gowdy has just written a great new novel, an in depth study of justice and grief.”

And he calls you a political pro and a very good and talented guy. He says get his new book today. What does that feel like to have the president also acknowledge the importance of what’s in this book, justice and grief?

TREY GOWDY: Emily, that is the side of the president that I know the three of you know, but I think the rest of the world doesn’t.

I never ask him to do that. I gave him a copy of this book three weeks ago while we were playing golf and I didn’t expect him to read it and I certainly didn’t expect him to encourage others to do it.

You know, it’s funny, the president says I’m right half the time, which means I’m wrong half the time. For him to be so gracious and kind to someone who is wrong half the time, I think is a story that doesn’t get told very often.

EMILY COMPAGNO: Trey, you are a treasure and we’re grateful for you today and every day.

Trump had written another post praising Gowdy’s book on Tuesday.
