‘Trump Is Not Going to Like That!’ CNN Anchor on Disastrous New Poll Seconds Before Brutal Jobs Report
CNN anchor Kate Bolduan remarked that President Donald Trump “is not going to like” new polling on his jobs record — just seconds before reporting a new jobs report that Fox Business called “brutal.”
Friday morning saw the release of a new jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) that showed much worse than expected growth in employment, with just 22,000 jobs created amid expectations of almost quadruple that number.
It’s the first jobs report since Trump fired the last BLS commissioner, and one which a Fox Business Network panel called “brutal.”
On Friday’s edition of CNN News Central, Bolduan and CNN chief data correspondent Harry Enten went over some “very, very bad” polling numbers for Trump on jobs, which have cratered to well below where former President Joe Biden stood last year.
That painful comparison came seconds before co-anchor Omar Jimenez broke the new jobs numbers:
KATE BOLDUAN: Really quickly, the big question is, the president has been trying to push off blame on who’s to blame when bad economic numbers come in. How do Americans feel Trump is doing?
HARRY ENTEN: Okay, so this to me is, if you’re in the White House, what a worrisome trend. Okay, net approval of jobs and employment, December of 2024, Joe Biden was underwater at minus eight points.
Donald Trump gets in, he goes up, plus nine points net approval on jobs and unemployment.
But look at where Donald Trump is now, minus 13 points.
What is that? That’s a 24-point drop since January of 2025.
And get this, Donald Trump was hired to fix the economy, but when it comes to jobs and employment, look at that, minus 30.
That is worse than Joe Biden was doing in December of 2024. Joe Biden, of course, was in the basement, and yet Donald Trump is even lower down than him. You can barely get an elevator that goes that low, Kate Bolduan.
KATE BOLDUAN: Donald Trump was not going to like that comparison!
But now we’re gonna have some new data coming in just now. Let’s go
OMAR JIMENEZ: Yeah, breaking moments ago, jobs growth slowed to a crawl last month. I want to bring in CNN’s Matt Egan, who joins me now. So what are these numbers? What are we seeing in this?
MATT EGAN: Well, Omar, look, after years of resilience, the U.S. Job market looks increasingly fragile, especially after the latest numbers that just came out.
So this report just moments ago shows the U S economy added 22,000 jobs in August. That is very low. It’s also just a fraction of the 77,000 job that had been expected.
