Trump on Whether He Considers Russia a Security Threat: ‘I Consider Many Countries’ a Security Threat

President Trump declined to explicitly say whether or not he considers Russia a “security threat” during his press conference today with Finland President Sauli Niinistö.

As the two leaders took questions, a reporter asked Trump about recent Russian activity in the Baltics, and whether he views Russia as a threat. Trump seemed to dodge the question as it pertains to Russia by saying “I consider many countries as a security threat, unfortunately, when you look at what’s going on in the world today.”

Trump continued to talk about his positive relationship with Finland and how he’ll handle the “many countries” he views as threats. Trump eventually took a follow-up question about what America would do if the Baltic situation escalates further.

“We are very protective of that region, that’s all I can say,” Trump answered. “We are very, very protective. We have great friends there, great relationships there. We are extremely protective.”

The Trump administration continues to face questions about Russia in connection with the investigations of last year’s election interference. The inquiry might have experienced a new development today due to the details revealed in the emails of Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.
