Trump Reveals the Next City for Federal Crime Crackdown: ‘We’re Going to Memphis’

President Donald Trump has revealed that he plans to send National Guard and, possibly, “military” to “straighten out crime” in Memphis, Tennessee.

Appearing on Fox & Friends on Friday, the president broke the news as the hosts discussed his federal takeover of law enforcement in Washington, D.C., and resistance from Democratic lawmakers as he eyes other “blue” cities.

Trump said: “I think I’ll be first to say it. We’re going to Memphis. Memphis is deeply troubled, the mayor is happy, Democratic mayor. Mayor is happy and the governor of Tennessee is happy. Deeply troubled. We’re going to fix it like we did Washington.”

“I would prefer to go to Chicago,” he said, before explaining that the idea came from a conversation with a railroad executive he knows with ties to FedEx.

According to Trump, the executive flagged Memphis and warned that he can only “walk one block” from his hotel before he’s made to travel in “an armored vehicle with bullet-proof glass.”

“He said it is terrible,” the president added.

“National Guard?” Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked.

Trump replied: “National Guard and anybody else we need, military if we need it. National Guard. Memphis is a great music city, home of Elvis and everything else.”
