Trump Rips ‘Stupid’ Biden for Lock-Up Comment: ‘He’s Not Allowed to Say That’
Former President Donald Trump told supporters in Arizona on Thursday that President Joe Biden is “not allowed” to comment on whether he should be locked up or not.
The comment was an apparent reference to a comment Biden made earlier this week in which he said America needed to “lock [Trump] up” but quickly noted that he meant “politically.”
Biden was speaking in New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon when he made a case for Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him in the White House. He also criticized Trump for vowing to shrink the federal government if elected to a second term.
“I mean, so I know this sounds bizarre. I know if I said this five years ago, you’d lock me up. We gotta lock him up,” Biden said to applause.
He then declared, “Politically lock him up. Lock him out. That’s what we have to do.”
CNN’s Jake Tapper predicted Trump’s campaign would seize on the gaffe, which it did. Trump is facing the prospect of jail time amid his continued legal battles. He has been convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records and indicted in three other jurisdictions.
The former president has accused the Biden administration of weaponizing the Justice Department against him. Speaking in Tempe on Thursday evening, he responded to Biden’s comment:
The whole world is watching us, and they see these people that don’t deserve to be in any position of authority. Remember, he got – whether you like him or not, I’m not a fan of his – did you see last night he blew it?
He said lock him up. He would – he said lock him up last night. He’s not allowed to do that. He’s such a stupid guy. Such a stupid fool. He’s such a guy.
