Trump: ‘Shrill’ Hillary Is the ‘Original Birther’

Speaking to a half-empty room in Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday, Donald Trump declared, “I respect women more than I respect men.”

But just seconds later, he was pointing out how “shrill” Hillary Clinton has become. “Do you know the word ‘shrill?'” he asked his crowd.

Trump proceeded to lay into the Democratic frontrunner for daring to condemn his refusal to say whether he believes President Barack Obama was born in the U.S., citing rumors initially brought up by her 2008 presidential campaign.

“In 2008, she was the original birther!” Trump said of Clinton. “She’s the one that started that whole thing! Hillary is a birther!” He then implored his supporters not to switch their votes to her for that reason.

During an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon on Wednesday, Clinton said it was “ludicrous” to suggest that she started the “birther” movement. “I have been blamed for nearly everything. That was a new one to me,” she said.
