Trump Considering Gitmo for NYC Terrorist, Calls Justice System ‘Joke’ & ‘Laughingstock’
As President Trump held a meeting with his cabinet today, he offered remarks about the truck attack that took place in New York City on Tuesday.
During a discussion on tax reform, Trump offered sympathy to those who were affected by the horribleness of last night. Trump referred to the perpetrator as an “animal” as he announced that he will ask Congress to end the Diversity Visa Lottery Program which granted entrance to the country for the Uzbek national.
“It sounds nice, it’s not nice. It’s not good, it hasn’t been good. We’ve been against it,” said Trump. “We have to get much tougher. We have to get much smarter. And we have to get much less politically correct.”
Trump expressed disdain for the program earlier today, causing a new fight between himself and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
Trump also used his statement to complain about chain migration and talk about his preference for a merit-based migration system. Trump took the occasion to slam “obstructionist” Democrats, spoke of how political correctness makes America “too afraid” to stop terrorism, and he also seemed to slam the Justice Department over how it handles terror cases.
“We have to come up with punishment that’s far quicker and far greater than the punishment these animals are getting right now. They’ll go through court for years. At the end, they’ll be – who knows what happens. We need quick justice, and we need strong justice. Much quicker and much stronger than we have right now, because what we have right now is a joke, and it’s a laughing stock. And no wonder so much of this stuff takes place.”

After Trump spoke about his push for tax reform and his upcoming trip to Asia, he was asked about whether he would send the suspect to Guantanamo Bay. “I would certainly consider that,” Trump responded, and he also said the perpetrator’s family “certainly could” pose a threat to the country.
