Trump ‘Was Very Angry With Dan Bongino,’ CNN Reports
President Donald Trump reportedly became “very angry” with deputy FBI director Dan Bongino after he failed to turn up to work on Friday in protest over U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s controversial handling of files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Reporting on Bongino’s AWOL incident CNN host Kaitlan Collins said on Monday, “He is still the deputy director of the FBI right now and he hasn’t resigned or been fired, but the relationship has deteriorated so much that there officials inside the White House who have not spoken to Dan Bongino in days, even though, of course, the question of whether or not he was still going to be employed by the federal government was still a big one for officials over the weekend.”
She continued:
I was told the president was very angry with Dan Bongino, and also the FBI director Kash Patel, to a degree, which is why you saw Patel put out that statement over the weekend saying he had no plans to resign and was going to work for Trump as long as he would have him.
Obviously, right now, they’re trying to basically just get their arms around the story and control it and stop the fallout from continuing, as it’s only continued to grow. Their base has only gotten angrier about not getting answers to the questions that they were told they were gonna get answers to, and so yes, Dan Bongino may stay in the job for right now, we have no indication that he’s left, but there is a real question of the future of that relationship, especially given the ultimatum he made over the attorney general Pam Bondi after she confronted him, and also just the fact he’s not speaking to a lot of people.
Collins also claimed Bongino’s situation was so bad that White House officials texted her earlier on Monday to ask if the deputy director of the FBI had shown up to work.
The CNN host reported last week that Bongino had given Trump an ultimatum: fire Bondi or I will resign.
Bongino then reportedly “lost his mind and ran out of D.C.” after receiving “heat online” over the Trump administration’s handling of the Epstein files, which has continued to anger Trump supporters despite the president’s repeated comments urging his base to drop their queries over Epstein and his alleged blackmail ring.
